The Hospital Miquel Marti i Pol in Spain incorporates VirtualRehab and MindPlay Games

We recently had the opportunity to speak to Monica Nieves, Director of the l’Hospital de Neurorehabilitació Miquel Martí i Pol. in Lleida, Spain where they recently incorporated VirtualRehab and MindPlay Games. Monica explained to us how the centre was set up by the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation with a multidisciplinary focus.

Dr. Nieves began by saying “The persons living in Lleida who suffer from a neuroprogressive disease such as Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Huntington’s Disease, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), Parkinson’s, etc.), Acquired Brain Injuries (stroke, brain tumours, etc.) or Traumatic Brain Injuries all have the right to free access to our centre and its resources as we are included in the public health system of the Catalunya government.”

She continued “Patients receive not only physical treatments at the centre, but also cognitive and psychological care, and we not only work with the patients but also their families and caregivers

Dr. Nieves went on to explain “Our team are formed by various member who have over 10 years of experience in neurorehabilitation. The team is made up of physiothereapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, social workers, neuropsychologist, medical rehabilitator and nurses. We treat a wide variety of diseases and conditions.

Why did you decide to incorporate VirtualRehab into your centre?

New technologies like VirtualRehab and the Atouch Interactive Table are tools that allow us to work in a transdisciplinary manner, which permits different specialists (physiotherapists, occupational therapists, psychologists and neuropsychologist) to work physical, cognitive and emotional objectives using shared tools.

What benefits do you think VirtualRehab brings to your patients?

At our centre we treat young persons with neurological diseases like Multiple Sclerosis and with Aquired Brain Injuries such as stroke and Traumatic Brain Injuries as well. The motivational factor, which a new technology like VirtualRehab brings, increases patient interest in the treatment as it’s more attractive.

How are you using VirtualRehab and MindPlay Games in your centre?

Our plan is to use VirtualRehab to increase the solutions we can offer for individualized treatments. MindPlay Games on the interactive table, however, allows us to offer simultaneous treatments for groups of up to 4 people.
