VirtualRehab to exhibit at ACPIN-INPA International Neurophysiotherapy Conference

Virtualware Health will be exhibiting its VirtualRehab neurorehabilitation platform at the ACPIN-INPA International Neurophysiotherapy Conference taking place in London between March 17th and 18th at the QE2 Centre in London, UK.

The theme of the conference, “Evidence into Practice”, is aimed at providing attendees with a programme of eminent speakers from around the world who are at the vanguard of neurorehabilitation related research that contributes to the evidence base in everyday practice. A select group of exhibitors will also be showing the latest technologies and solutions used in neurorehabilitation.

The Association of Physiotherapists in Neurology (ACPIN) is one of the largest Professional Networks recognised by the UK Chartered Society of Physiotherapy. It is concerned with all aspects of physiotherapy related to the needs of neurologically impaired adults and their relatives and carers.

The International Neurological Physical Therapy Association (INPA) represents national groups of physical therapists in the UK with a specialist interest in neurology and neuroscience. The INPA aims to support national organisations and individual physical therapists with an interest in advancing the scope and practice of neurological physical therapy.

VirtualRehab is the first virtual reality rehabilitation platform to receive CE mark approval from the European Commission and has been designed for professional therapists who work with Stroke survivors, as well as with persons who suffer from other neurological conditions. VirtualRehab is made up of clinically-tested therapeutic gamified exercises that help patients work various upper and lower body motor functions using the Microsoft® Kinect Xbox One and fine motor skills of the hands using the Leap Motion® controller. These digital exercises can be customized for each patient’s particular needs and provide objective outcome data showing therapy effectiveness.

Designed in partnership with neurologists and physiotherapists, VirtualRehab is used to augmenting traditional therapy in clinics and patients’ home in order to promote the necessary repetition of movements that lead to significant and lasting patient outcomes.

Within in the UK, VirtualRehab is currently being used in the Neurorehabilitation unit of the National Hospital for Neurology & Neurosurgery (NHNN) Queen Square in London, in the Neuro physio department of the Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals as well as in Croydon University Hospital’s Stroke Unit where it will be used in patients’ homes as a telerehabilitation service.

Outside the UK, VirtualRehab is currently being offered in rehabilitation centres throughout Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Latin America. Patients have logged more than 14,400 game sessions and almost 1,400 full hours in therapy through the Cloud version up to now.

David Fried, International Business Development Director at Virtualware Health, had this to say about the upcoming event, “This is one of the key events for us this year where we can demonstrate how VirtualRehab Body and Hands can be used by therapists to help patients who are in the process of receiving neurorehabilitation. Through the use of videogame technology and gamification, our solution motivates patients resulting in greater adherence to therapy programs, which can lead to improved patient outcomes.”

Demos of VirtualRehab Body + Hands will be available at the ACPIN-INPA International Neurophysiotherapy Conference at Booth.
